VSO Analysis: US Gambling’s Pandemic Recovery in 2021
The US gambling industry suffered in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the industry has recovered and recorded record revenue. The three largest gambling states have released their revenue results for last year.
Pennsylvania casinos generated $4.73bn in 2021. Three of the five casinos that brought in the most cash came from the Philadelphia area. Sports betting and iGaming played a big part in Pennsylvania's gambling success.
New Jersey's casinos reopened in May last year. The state posted a year-to-December revenue of $4.74bn. Sports betting made New Jersey’s recovery efforts all the more successful. Internet gambling operators generated win of $1.37bn for the year 2021.
Nevada is the most profitable gambling market in the US. Last year, Nevada had the lowest monthly casino revenue since 1997. Governor Sisolak reignited the hopes of Vegas casino owners by reviving the Las Vegas Strip. All Nevada casinos returned to full occupancy levels from June 1. Nevada saw gaming revenue of $13.4bn in 2021. Sports betting contributed to Nevada's recovery.
