Macomb County lottery winner: ‘It couldn’t have happened at a better time’

A 32-year-old Macomb County resident who recently won several hundred thousand dollars in a Michigan Lottery game says it couldn’t have happened at a better time.
The resident, who chose to remain anonymous, won a $400,017 Fantasy 5 jackpot, lottery officials said in a news release.
He matched the winning Fantasy 5 numbers on Oct. 16 – 16-17-21-28-33 – to win the cash prize. He bought his winning ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.
In the release, the winner explained how he discovered he was the recipient of so much cash.
“I saw an email from the Lottery about claiming a prize as I was leaving work, and figured I must have won big,” he said. “I went home, ate dinner, relaxed for a bit, and then finally logged in to my account to see how much I’d won. When I saw $400,017 pending, I was so happy! This prize couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his winnings. He plans to use the money to pay bills and save the remainder.
