Horse Shoe woman wins $137K lottery jackpot
Valerie Logiudice, of Horse Shoe couldn’t believe her eyes when her $5 Fast Play ticket was worth a $137,141 jackpot prize.
Logiudice purchased the ticket for the 20X The Cash game Aug. 10 at Mr. Pete's Market on Brevard Road in Etowah.
Sitting at home later that night, Logiudice pulled out her ticket to see what she won.
“I looked at that ticket for about a half hour,” she said, in a N.C. Education Lottery news release. “I was really shocked.”
Logiudice claimed her prize Aug. 11 at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $97,028 after required federal and state tax withholdings. She plans to use her prize money to pay off bills.
The jackpot win is the third for a $5 20X The Cash ticket since it launched in April. The odds of winning a Fast Play jackpot are one in 240,000. A $5 ticket receives 50% of the jackpot amount, according to the release.
Fast Play’s rolling, progressive jackpot increases with every ticket sold until it is won.
The amount of the jackpot at the time of the sale and how much of the jackpot could be won is printed on the ticket. Players can also win instant cash prizes.
Ticket sales from games like Fast Play make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million per year for education, the release states.
