Chicago Casino is Failing to Attract Big Vegas Operators
Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands, Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resort International do not plan to submit a proposal for the first-ever casino in downtown Chicago. Mayor Lori Lightfoot is still confident that more bidders will submit proposals before the new deadline.
Chicago casino project is not attracting big Vegas operators because of the high tax rate. Seminole Tribe, Boyd Gaming, Bally’s Corporation, Genting Group, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, Landry”s Inc., and Rush Street Gaming are interested in submitting a proposal.
A Chicago casino is projected to generate $200m each year for the city. The local government hopes to use this money to help its underfunded fire and police pension funds. There is also talk of the ban on sports betting being removed. DraftKings is planning to open a retail sportsbook at Wrigley Field.
