Leicester Travelodge and Grosvenor Casino up for sale with £10.2 million asking price
A chain hotel and casino in Leicester city centre has gone up for sale with a £10.2 million asking price. Leicester Travelodge boasts 95 rooms across four floors, plus Grosvenor Casino on site too.
The site, which sits next to Highcross, has been described as a 'unique city-centre development opportunity' with its prominent location on the A594 Ring Road and close proximity to prime retail establishments as investment highlights, according to Savills, the real estate company selling the property. The hotel, which opened in 2004, underwent a £325,000 refurbishment in 2014 as part of the companywide modernisation programme.
Victor Ktori, head of the Nottingham office at Savills, said: “The property represents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant piece of city centre real estate, immediately adjacent to Highcross Shopping Centre. Initial interest has been strong from a broad range of investors.”
The hotel is bordered by Vaughan Way, High Street, and Highcross Street, putting it in a prime position for investors. A listing for the property on Rightmove says it contains 76 family rooms, 14 double and five accessible rooms across the ground floor and three upper floors.
All rooms are fitted out with an en-suite bathroom with a shower. They feature double glazed windows, a gas-fired heating system, a flat-screen digital TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Grosvenor Casino is located across the ground, first and, second floors of the hotel with a ‘machine floor’ on the ground level with gaming and slot machines, and a ‘gaming floor’ at the first level together with a number of bars and a 50 cover restaurant area. The second floor includes a staff rest room, kitchen and preparatory areas, training rooms and the plant room.
As of December 2021, Travelodge was the UK's second-largest budget brand, with more than 592 hotels - including one at Leicester's Haymarket shopping centre. Travelodge has a further 17 hotels planned for 2022 including the opening of their 600th hotel.
Grosvenor Casinos Limited was established in 1966 and operates 52 casinos throughout the UK. To see the listing on Rightmove
