KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops woman won $500,000 during her work break Friday (Oct. 7) afternoon.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Oct. 12) morning, British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) says Tammy Harden contacted its website to verify her $503,116.45 win on one of its slot’s games. Harden says she contacted her daughter and took the rest of the afternoon off following the win.

“She didn’t believe me and when I showed her, she used a bad word,” Harden says. “My son cried and said it’s going to change my life.”

Beyond setting some money aside for a new house, Harden says she will share some of her winnings with the people around her and take some time to consider plans for the rest. For now, she’s taking her sisters on a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate her win. She also stated she will no longer have to pay rent.
