Jobs Galore as US Casinos Engage in ‘Great Hiring Wave’
US Casinos are hiring more staff. Over 100 employers will offer 13,000 jobs at a Las Vegas jobs fair on Friday. In California, Morongo Casino Resort & Spa has been hosting job fairs since December. Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina needs 900 more employees for its Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Harrah”s Valley River Hotel & Casino.
US casinos are in a hiring war. They are competing with each other for new employees. There is a labor shortage in Nevada. Caesars wanted to hire 500 people at a job fair in February. In Clark County, there are over 40,000 job vacancies.
US Casinos are hiring. Lupo, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey, says it's hard for all casinos to find enough staff. Wanda Gispert, vice president at MGM Resorts, gives another example of a huge staffing void.
Casinos are offering to train staff without the skill set. They are also upping wages and benefits. People that made $14 an hour a year ago might now be making $16 or $17.
