One of the most popular hotels in Las Vegas is shutting down. Here’s what will replace it

After more than three decades on the Las Vegas Strip, the Mirage Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip will close its doors.

CNN reports the 3,000-room resort will cease operations on July 17. It will then undergo a massive three-year renovation before reopening in 2027 as Hard Rock Las Vegas, featuring a soaring 700-foot-tall hotel tower in the shape of a guitar. The Mirage’s iconic volcano will be destroyed to make space for new rooms, reports CNN.

“We’d like to thank the Las Vegas community and team members for warmly welcoming Hard Rock after enjoying 34 years at The Mirage,” said Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, which bought the property in 2022 from MGM Resorts, according to Newsweek.

Six-hundred additional hotel rooms, a 174,000-square foot casino with 2,000 slots and 212 table games will be added once renovations are complete.

Any reservations made past the July 17 closure date will be refunded. Reservations made directly with the hotel can expect deposits to be returned in 7-10 days.

More than 3,000 Mirage employees will be laid off at the beginning of July, the reports indicated. Joe Lupo, president of The Mirage, says hiring events have been planned to connect Mirage employees with new positions.

When the new Hard Rock hotel and casino is completed, it is expected to double the current number of jobs at the property. Construction will generate over 2,500 jobs, according to the hotel chain.
