Jackpot? City pockets quarterly payment from OLG for hosting casino
The City of Sault Ste. Marie has received a payment of $393,454 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
The payment covers second-quarter earnings — covering July 1 to Sept. 30 — by OLG at its Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie site, a portion of which is shared with the city.
During OLG’s current fiscal year (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024), the City has received $698,297.
Since the site opened in May 1999, the City has received $34,573,833.
These payments are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
“OLG provides municipal partners with significant funds to enable investments in host gaming communities like Sault Ste. Marie through Municipality Contribution Payments,” said Ross Romano, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie. “These payments are used to support priorities such as much-needed new infrastructure and parks and recreation that enrich our local community.”
