Georgia Turns on Gambling as PM Envisions Banning Online Casinos
Georgia's government is considering cracking down on online casinos. The aim is to enforce the strongest online casino rules among all countries in the region.
Georgia's PM Gharibashvili proposes a two-stage ban on online casinos. First phase will see the Minister of Finance raise taxes and ban them from running any advertisement. Second phase would further limit online casino operations and increase the minimum gambling age to 25 years.
Georgia's PM wants to ban online casinos. He believes it's an economic and civic duty for the protection of the country. $517 million is exported through offshore online casino every year. Most of it goes to people living in poverty. Gharibashvili wants a compromise solution. The more drastic solution would be better received by Georgians.
