Florida Gambling Ballot Row Continues With Countersuit
The opposition to Florida Voters In Charge's proposal to legalize casinos in North Florida has filed a countersuit accusing the group of illegal conduct and fraud. The initiative is backed by casino company Las Vegas Sands. FVC filed the lawsuit in December. The main opposition group is funded by the Seminole Tribe.
SUF believes that the state constitution is under attack. The countersuit claims that FVC’s hired professional petition gatherers are violating Florida election law. It also alleges that Game Day Strategies has funneled over $27 million to FVCC. Las Vegas Sands contributed almost $50 million.
The proposal to allow three new Vegas-style casinos in Florida was approved last week. It needs to get at least 891,589 legit signatures by February 1 to be on the ballot. The Seminole Tribe-backed SUF claims that FVC obtained the signatures illegally.
