Betr Announces Plans to Launch Betr Casino in Pennsylvania
Six months after announcing it would be focusing on its picks site, Betr Picks, Betr announced it is not only getting back in the sports betting game but the online casino game as well.
Right now, Betr Sportsbook is only live in Massachusetts, Virginia and Ohio. Per the announcement from Betr on Tuesday, that will be changing, as the brand will not be seeking permanent licensure in the Bay State.
Instead, the operator will move forward with plans to launch in Indiana and Maryland and also announced market access plans for Kentucky, Colorado and Pennsylvania.
“We are thrilled to announce our new market access partnerships for Sportsbook and the introduction of Betr Casino in 2024 ahead of our V1 Sportsbook launch,” said Betr Founder and CEO Joey Levy. “Through the success of Betr Picks, we have validated that our playbook of simpler and more intuitive user experiences built for casual fans on the product front, and original short-form video built for the next generation of sports fans on social media on the distribution front, are winning strategies for rapidly and efficiently scaling a new real money gaming business in the U.S. The data we are seeing not only suggests that we are building a large and highly profitable real-money gaming and media business, but that we are doing so by bringing new users into the category.”
As in Indiana, Betr is leveraging the access of an investor in the microbetting firm, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). EBCI owns equity in Revolutionary Racing, which is behind Sandy’s Racing & Gaming in Kentucky. Betr takes the final skin the operator had available, joining bet365 and BetMGM as partners. EBCI is also how Betr gained market access in Indiana.
For Pennsylvania, Betr will partner with the Cordish Gaming Group to launch both Betr Sportsbook and Betr Casino.
“We are very excited to partner with Betr on the launch of their first online casino,” said Rob Norton, President, Cordish Gaming Group. “Betr Casino will make a winning addition to the gaming options available to Pennsylvania players, which includes two of our own successful Live! Casino properties.”
Betr plans to roll out a new version of its sportsbook, which Levy has termed in interviews as V1, in seven states by the end of 2024. The goal is to launch Betr Casino in Pennsylvania before the end of the year as well, pending regulatory approval.
The goal for Betr Picks, when it was announced in July, was for the site to be live in more than 30 markets by the end of 2023. It currently is available in 24 states.
Virginia does not offer sports betting operator data but revenue reports in Massachusetts and Ohio regularly show that Betr is one of, if not the smallest sportsbook in the market. In the most recent Ohio revenue report, Betr posted just over $500,000 in handle, while it accepted just under $500,000 in bets in Massachusetts.
