Survey and campaign created to bring awareness of the odds of winning when gambling and helping inform future gambling harm reduction activities

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has created an online survey about gambling.

"The purpose of this evaluation is to help the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) assess whether the “Think You’ll Win?” campaign achieved its goals of increasing awareness of the odds of winning when gambling and helping inform future gambling harm reduction activities," the Health Unit stated in the introduction to the voluntary online evaluation.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and the Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing have joined forces to remind locals about the potential risks that can stem from gambling in a new joint campaign named ‘Think You’ll Win?’

Justine Mallah, community health promoter with the North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit told Casinoreports.ca that the main objective of the ‘Think You’ll Win?’ campaign is to educate locals on the odds of gambling. According to recent research, misconceptions of gambling among players are quite common. Mallah reminds gamblers that winning big in gambling is less likely than one expects.

As for the suvey, the Health Unit says all participants must be over 16 years of age and must live in the Nipissing or Parry Sound District.

"All responses will be kept private, anonymous, and confidential. No personal or identifiable information will be collected. The data will be held by the Health Unit and not shared externally. General findings may be published publically, however, you will not be identified in the report."

The survey comes on the heels of the new Cascades Casino which recently opened back in March in North Bay.

The survey takes five to ten minutes to complete and closes on Tuesday, June 7.
