UKGC published an interim evaluation on the successful implementation of the ban on gambling with credit cards. The credit card ban was introduced in April 2020 to add another layer of protection for consumers and to prevent friction in the process of gambling.

The report shows that the ban on gambling with credit cards is largely supported by consumers. The report also shows there was no increase in illegal money lending related to gambling. NatCen Social Research will conduct a full evaluation of the Ban on Gambling with Credit Cards scheduled for early 2023. The findings will be used to inform future policy development. Gabbling Commission's Interim Chief Executive Andrew Rhodes said: "Protecting consumers is at the heart of everything we do".   i.e. to ensure there is not an increase of harmful forms of funding gambling activity.
