12,000 Curacao Gambling Sites May Be Offering Unlicensed Products
Curacao is a constituent of the Kingdom of Netherlands. Dutch government offered Curacana COVID-19 relief funds on condition that they overhaul the way they issue gambling licenses. Curaao legalized its gambling industry in October. Now Dutch lawmakers have new concerns that as many as 12,000 Curacoa gambling sites may be offering unlicensed gambling in other countries.
There are concerns about the number of websites that are not subject to local regulation and targeting markets they are forbidden to operate in. Follow the Money's article claims Curacao may be responsible for as much as 40% of the global unregulated gambling. The minister of legal protection Sander Dekker explained that those numbers were as of time of discussion not verified. Curaçao is an independent jurisdiction and the government exerts little control or say in gaming matters.
Dekker confirms that claims for illegal gambling coming out of Curacao are taken seriously. In November, the Swedish gambling regulator had to suspend 23 Cura-based operators. Most of the banned gambling websites in the Netherlands, Sweden, most of Europe and Australia are usually operating under a Curacoa license.
