Woman left astonished after winning £7million jackpot in cheap casino game
A woman playing on a Swiss Jackpot slot machine at the Casino Zurich became a multimillionaire after paying just £4.50 before she hit a £7million jackpot
A lucky woman became a multimillionaire within a split second after she hit the £7million jackpot on a casino's one-armed bandit.
The winner - whose name has not been released - was left astonished after she had splashed out only a 5 Swiss Franc (£4.50) stake before the huge prize came up at a casino.
She had been playing on a high-paying Swiss Jackpot slot machine at the Casino Zurich in Switzerland on February 18.
Casino officials said the breathtaking win broke the previous record at the Casino of 7.6million Swiss Francs [£6.7million] from seven years ago.
They said: "The tension could be felt in the 11 participating casinos because the previous maximum had been exceeded."
Casino Director Marcus Jost added: "In the 20-year history of the Swiss Jackpot, such a high win has never been recorded."
Swiss Casinos said: "A total of 11 Swiss casinos participate in the jackpot, including the four Swiss casinos with Pfaeffikon, St. Gallen, Schaffhausen and Zurich, as well as the casinos in Baden, Basel, Bern, Davos, Lugano, Lucerne and St. Moritz."
A total of 81 people have hit the Swiss Jackpot with total winnings estimated up to 178 million Swiss Francs (£159 million) ever since it kicked off.
The jackpot reportedly starts at a million Swiss Francs (£890,000) after each hit.
The news comes as just last week an ‘ecstatic’ lottery player won the biggest ever lotto jackpot.
California lottery officials revealed on Tuesday that Edwin Castro won the record-breaking rollover sum, equivalent to around £1.67billion, back in November.
Edwin Castro sent a written statement saying he was "shocked and ecstatic" to have won the lottery.
He also said it was "gratifying" that the win would benefit local schools under the competition's donation scheme, and described himself as having been "educated in the California public education system."
His win also means that three of the 10 largest lottery jackpots in US history have come from tickets sold in California.
The second-largest jackpot - $1.6billion in 2016 - matched three tickets sold in California, Florida and Tennessee.
A $700million ticket was also sold in California in 2021.
Earlier this month, another lucky woman had revealed she won $50,000 on a lottery scratch card after purchasing the last ticket left in the vending machine.
Denise McIntosh, from Baltimore, Maryland, US, had bought five losing cards in a row from a self-service machine and had given up hope of winning after losing on all of them.
She said: "I scratched it while walking out of the store and then I scanned it on my phone. I said, 'I think I'm going to cry!'."
A few days later, she rushed to the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore and collected her prize, which she said was life-changing.
