With $5 bet, Lynnwood man hits $2.4 million slots jackpot at Tulalip
LYNNWOOD — A self-employed Lynnwood painter won a $2.4 million slot jackpot on March 20 at Tulalip Resort Casino.
It’s the largest known slot machine win at a Washington casino in state history, a Tulalip spokesperson said.
Jose Lopez, 39, hit the jackpot shortly after midnight on a Golden Charms progressive slot machine. He played the machine on a whim, urged by his girlfriend.
Lopez, a regular Tulalip guest, won $20,000 in the past, but on a different machine. He typically plays the Triple Fortune and Buffalo Gold slots. The casino has 2,400 slot machines.
Tulalip’s previous jackpot record of $1.1 million, in February 2020, was also on the Golden Charms progressive network of machines.
Golden Charms is inspired by historical events, famous characters and episodes from ancient Chinese myths. The layout has a 50-payline setup. In order to win, it takes a maximum $5 bet and the jackpot fish to be on one payline, according to a Tulalip video.
The exact amount Lopez won on his spin was $2,369,748.95.
That translates into a lot of quarters, and a few dimes.
Most was on paper.
“He took home some cash, but the majority was in a check,” said Dan Miller, casino spokesperson. “They withhold 25% tax.”
That’s about $600,000, leaving a balance of $1.8 million.
Not bad for a $5 bet. And a lesson that guys should listen to their girlfriends.
