West Virginia Online Gambling Industry's Record Breaking $20.68M Revenue in March 2024
Online gambling in West Virginia hit a new high in March 2024.
This is a big achievement for the state, which started online casinos in July 2020. In March, the virtual casinos made a record $20.68 million. This is the highest amount the state has ever made from online gambling.
Sports betting also did well in March. It brought in $4.41 million for West Virginia. There were also bets worth $47.22 million. In the first two years, the online casinos in the state did not make more than $10 million together. However, things have changed recently. The state has set new records for earnings in a single month five times in the last six months. This includes a large $17.46 million in February 2024.
In March, the state also made $3.1 million in taxes from online gambling. Each online casino in the state helped with this win. The Hollywood Casino Charles Town, which works with DraftKings Casino, made $7.8 million. The Greenbrier and their partners, BetMGM and FanDuel, made $7.2 million.
Since they started, the online casinos in West Virginia have made a total of $388 million. They have also paid nearly $60 million in taxes to the state.
The future looks good for online gambling in West Virginia. The state is now part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement. This means that online poker players from West Virginia can play against people from other states in the agreement. These sites have not fully started yet, but the state Lottery Director believes they will make a good amount of money. They should be ready for players later this year.
