Vegas officer indicted on US charges in 3 casino robberies
A Las Vegas police officer has been arraigned on federal charges stemming from three casino robberies that prosecutors say netted him about $164,000.
Caleb Mitchell Rogers’ federal public defenders did not immediately respond Monday to messages about his not-guilty pleas Friday to four charges including robbery and brandishing a firearm in a crime of violence.
A U.S. magistrate judge scheduled Rogers’ trial for May 23.
Rogers, 33, remains in federal custody. He was arrested Feb. 27 after allegedly stealing almost $79,000 from a Rio hotel-casino sportsbook cashier and threatening to shoot a security officer who chased him and wrested his gun from him.
Rogers also is accused of robberies last November at the Red Rock Resort and January at the Aliante Casino in North Las Vegas.
Prosecutors say the gun he allegedly used in the robberies belonged to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Rogers became a Las Vegas police officer in 2015, the department said. He was suspended without pay following his arrest.
