, 35, received his prison term during a sentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon in a Las Vegas federal courtroom on Tuesday. He will also have to serve three years of probation once his sentence is over.
Prosecutors were seeking about 20 years in prison, while Rogers' attorney asked for leniency, citing his career as a law enforcement officer.
While many of his peers chose career paths and lifestyles that served only themselves, [Rogers] opted for service in one of the most dangerous professions dedicated to protecting our society," his attorney Richard Pocker wrote in a sentencing memo submitted to the court prior to Tuesday's hearing.

Security officers chased after the man as he ran outside the west doors, and one officer managed to tackle him in the driveway near the parking garage.
Investigators checked the serial number on the gun recovered at the scene. They learned it belonged to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and was checked out to Rogers, according to an FBI complaint.
Prosecutors identified Rogers as a suspect in two other robberies reported at Aliante and Red Rock Casino. . He said the two of them rehearsed one of the robberies.
