Vegas Cannabis Lounges Are Coming, But Not to the Las Vegas Strip
Nevada legalized marijuana, but it's not easy to smoke it for tourists. Dispensaries operate legally, they're not allowed to have on-site consumption lounges. Hotels, including Caesars Entertainment's Caresars Resort and MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Resort, do not allow tourists to use marijuana on their properties.
Nevada state legislature passed a law allowing recreational cannabis business owners to apply for licenses to open on-site consumption lounges. It remains illegal to consume cannabis inside casinos and hotels. The Cannabis Compliance Board will decide how licenses will be granted. Caesars, MGM, Wynn, or any other casino operator will not get one.
Planet 13 is planning a consumption lounge next to its marijuana dispensary. Oasis Cannabis is preparing a beach-themed lounge a block away. The new law allows consumption lounges within 1,500 feet of casinos. Caesars, MGM, Wynn and other casinos can't compete. They might lobby for law changes allowing them to get in on the consumption action. It's a federal issue. They can still operate casinos without a license. There are no restrictions on smoking marijuana. Las Vegas casinos are not allowed to serve alcohol. However, they can serve tobacco.
