The Dirtiest Casinos in Las Vegas, According to Tripadvisor
You know that old legend that in London, you’re never more than 6 feet from a rat? We’re not sure if that’s true or not, but what we can tell you is that Las Vegas is actually a lot cleaner than many other cities around the world - between the Casinos.com team, we must have been to Vegas more than a dozen times, and we’ve never seen a rat.
What we have seen is the streets being swept and power-washed in the early hours of the morning while people are still playing slots, and a surprisingly small amount of litter on the streets.
That’s all good and well, of course, but clean streets don’t necessarily equate to clean sheets, and there was in fact a bed bug outbreak as recently as 2023, so we went in search of Las Vegas casinos, reviewed as the cleanest and dirtiest.
We would have loved to have stayed at every single casino in Vegas, so that we could inspect them all for stains on the bedding, and unexplained marks in the toilets (maybe we can get the budget in the next financial year), but seeing that wasn’t possible, we had to trust the good people at Tripadvisor.
We checked reviews for the below hotels, and looked for keywords like “stained”, “messy”, and “filthy” to bring you an accurate representation of these casinos.
- Rio Hotel & Casino
- Bellagio Las Vegas

- Circus Circus Hotel & Casino Las Vegas
With the dishonor of coming first on our list of dirtiest casinos, we have Circus Circus, with 18.58% on the scale. A whopping 1,000 people used the word “dirty” and another 1,000 called it “smelly”.
Because we’re suckers for punishment, we decide to dive deeper into the reviews. My personal favorite said “The food is high and all the workers are on drugs and ghetto as hell. This one girl’s hands were filthy - hair and clothes were filthy, she was digging all in her hair and scalp and making people food.” I don’t know how food can be on drugs, but I don’t want to find out. I’ll give Circus Circus a miss.
Next on the list of dirtiest casinos was The Plaza, which was ranked pretty high on our list of noisiest casinos too.
One poor review stated that “The room was dingy, dark, and I had to push on the door handle to make it lock. I never had anyone come to my room to clean or replace towels”.
Down towards the other end of the Strip, Excalibur didn’t do too well either. Rated 12.89% on the Dirty Scale, 1,000 reviews used the word “dirty” and 367 went a step further and said it was “filthy”.
“Hallway carpet was always dirty, despite seeing house cleaning always present. Strangest thing was a bottle of lotion outside the hotel window on the ledge, despite windows not being able to be opened”, we have so many questions.
The buffet isn’t bad though, and it’s usually pretty cheap to stay at Excalibur, so you’ve just got to decide on your priorities.
So, if you don’t fancy visiting a smelly casino, you might want to try the Wynn instead. With only 4.26% on the Dirty Scale, just seven reviews used the word “unclean” and two said “unhygienic”.
One slightly worrying review said “Only negatives concerned some unhygienic practices by the housekeeper; I would definitely recommend putting all of your personal items such as toothbrush, floss, etc away each day!”, so we’d love to know what happened to that person’s toothbrush. Moving on...
The Encore, also at the Wynn, scored 4.60%. One person said it was unhygienic and there were 30 mentions of the word “messy”, but overall the reviews are good - and for a five-star hotel and casino, you’d expect no less.
One great review said “The Encore is always Top Notch! Clean rooms, great ambience, very good restaurant selections”.
