Thailand Shows Interest in Opening Casino Resorts in the Near Future
The parliament of Thailand will launch a study to introduce casino gaming. The House of Representatives voted for it unanimously last week. A special committee will be formed with 60 members, 15 of which will come from the cabinet and 45 from political parties. It will examine the proposal of opening a resort with a casino. The study will take 90 days. Thailand has had numerous debates on whether casino gambling should be legalized. King Bhumibol Adulyadej opposed it until 2020.
Thailand is one of three ASEAN countries where gambling remains illegal. Las Vegas Sands wants to develop a casino resort in Bangkok in 2019. The company sold its Las Las assets and is turning its development aspirations towards Asia. Thailand is the 20th most populous country in the world.
