SIOUX CITY MAN SENTENCED IN CASINO FRAUD CASE
A SIOUX CITY MAN HAS PLED GUILTY TO CHARGES THAT HE TRIED TO DEFRAUD THE STATE OF IOWA OF MONEY HE OWED THE STATE BY HAVING ANOTHER PERSON CLAIM A JACKPOT HE WON AT THE HARD ROCK CASINO.
57-YEAR OLD DAJO GRANDBERRY WON $2400 OFF A SLOT MACHINE AT SIOUX CITY’S HARD ROCK CASINO LAST AUGUST 7TH.
PROSECUTORS SAY BECAUSE HE OWED MONEY TO THE STATE, GRANDBERRY CONVINCED ANOTHER MAN TO SIT AT THE SLOT MACHINE AND CLAIM THAT HE HAD WON THE MONEY.
FOLLOWING A D-C-I INVESTIGATION, GRANDBERRY WAS ARRESTED ON NOVEMBER 30TH AND CHARGED WITH UNLAWFUL BETTING-FRAUDULENT CLAIM AND SOLICITATION TO COMMIT A FELONY.
IN A PLEA AGREEMENT, GRANDBERRY PLED GUILTY TO BOTH FELONY CRIMINAL CHARGES IN WOODBURY COUNTY DISTRICT COURT.
HE WAS SENTENCED TO SUSPENDED CONSECUTIVE FIVE YEAR TERMS ON EACH COUNT AND PLACED ON TWO YEARS PROBATION.THAT INCLUDES SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATIONS.
