Rivers casino offering free training for card dealers
SCHENECTADY - Looking to take a chance on a new career? The Rivers Casino has an offer with some potentially good odds for a decent paycheck as a table games dealer.
Citing the need for more dealers, the casino is offering a free six-week course for 20 people.
Cost of dealer school usually runs around $5,000, according to the casino. But Rivers is offering the training for free starting on Monday, Feb. 14, at the casino training center at 220 Harborside Drive, Suite 201, Schenectady.
Classes will run from 7 to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday for six weeks. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
Rivers is currently looking to hire 20 full-time and 30 part-time dealers. Pay starts at around $56,000 annually. Some of the roles, such as craps croupier require additional training. The jobs are unionized.
The casino currently has 179 full-time and 13 part-time dealers.

Once they pass their final audition and obtain a state gaming license, participants will be offered a part-time or full-time position as a table games dealer at Rivers Casino. Complimentary shuttle bus service from the local CDTA blue line stop is also provided.
Candidates must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
