Puerto Rico Adding Three New Casino Licenses before 2021 Ends

Puerto Rico is looking to add three new casino licenses to its gaming commission.
Condado Plaza Hilton, Embassy Suites by Hilton-Dorado and Tribute Fortfolio are applying for casino gaming licenses in Puerto Rico. Condado has already been granted preliminary approval to move forward with its casino project. The other two applications are pending. All three properties are expected to launch before the end of the year.
Puerto Rico is planning to introduce sports betting legislation. BetMGM and Casino del Mar are planning a sports gambling facility. Foxwoods El San Juan Casino launched in November. The legalization of sports betting is not expected until 2022 at the earliest. Puerto Rico's tourism is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The room tax collected for the first eight months of the year surged to record-high levels. There are currently 16 casinos in Puerto Rican territory.
