Police Arrest 11 People over Online Gambling in Bali

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police’s Cybercrime Deputy Director Dani Kustoni said his team apprehended eleven people believed to have been affiliated with an online gambling site ring operating in Bali on September 6, 2023. The arrest was made after conducting profiling and investigation.

“We detained 11 people today. One of them is the coordinator and 10 others assisted in the operation,” Dani said at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department HQ on Friday, September 8, 2023.

The eleven suspects are identified as R, AS, AP, AL, DN, IF, Y, M, MH, MR, and PS. R is the coordinator of the online gambling site. The police seized pieces of evidence consisting of 12 laptops, 21 mobile phones, and a SIM card box.

The Police Cybercrime Directorate official Sr. Comr. Rizki Agung Prakoso said the investigators charged the suspects with Article 45 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph 2 of the ITE Law which carries a penalty of six years imprisonment and Article 303 of the Criminal Code paragraph 1(1-2) which carries a penalty of 10 years imprisonment.

“And Article 3 and Article 10 of the TPPU Law (Money Laundering Law) which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison,” Rizki explained.

Dani also said that so far in 2023, the police have uncovered 77 online gambling cases and arrested 130 suspects. “Two weeks ago, we arrested 31 people [suspected of involvement in online gambling cases],” he said.
