Philippine President Lifts Boracay Casino Ban

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has lifted a ban on casino operations on the resort island of Boracay. He needs money to pay a lot of expenses and keep the government running. In 2018, he had banned casinos from being developed and operated on Boray, and ordered an environmental cleanup. Boroy closed the island for six months and stalled at least two multi-million dollar casino projects.
Philippine President Lifts Boracay Casino Ban. Andrew Tan and his Alliance Global Group will proceed with their casino project in Boray Newcoast. Leisure and Resorts World announced in late 2019 that discussions over the mega-scheme had stopped due to the ban. Galaxy and Alliance Group previously held provisional licenses enabling them to build and operate integrated casino resorts on Borakay. The two licenses were suspended following President Duterte’s ban and are expected to be lifted when developers apply for them.
