Operator Trying New Spin On Roulette, Combining Live And Online
Not since the prime of the Doublemint twins have we seen such a push for doubling your pleasure.
BetMGM and Borgata announced this month the arrival in Atlantic City — and throughout New Jersey — of Dual Play Roulette, enabling gamblers both on the casino floor and on their computers or mobile devices to occupy the same gaming table.
The product comes from Evolution Gaming, whose name fits here because live dealer-related offerings are so clearly central to where iCasino is heading as it evolves. Evolution’s Dual Play games have already found success in Europe, and Dual Play Roulette was voted Best UK Table Gaming Product in the 2019 British Casino Awards.
Dual Play Roulette now becomes the first Evolution Dual Play game at a North American MGM property.
Digging into Dual Play
Dual Play’s concept is simple: There’s a physical roulette table at Atlantic City’s Borgata Casino, surrounded by cameras that, in a change of pace for a casino floor, are not security cams. They’re there to livestream the table to mobile users located within New Jersey state borders on both BetMGM Casino and Borgata Online Casino.
Before the ball and the wheel start spinning, players both in person and online can place their bets on where the ball will land.
Part of the live dealer iCasino experience, which extends to blackjack and other assorted table games, is about providing digital players some of the social experience of a brick-and-mortar casino, as well as eliminating the skepticism some may have regarding virtual representations of cards or roulette wheels.
Games like this that cater to both audiences figure to have cross-marketing value. Dual Play Roulette serves to make in-person players aware of iCasino and potentially curious to try it, while theoretically inspiring online players to consider a trip to Atlantic City.
When asked by CNBC recently whether there’s fear of online casino games cannibalizing retail gambling, Borgata Vice President of Casino Operations James Bruno responded, “Not at all. This is the new age of gaming we’re embarking on, leveraging the technology in a dynamic which provides an immersive experience for that online play. So meeting players in the comfort of their own home, increasing the action through Dual Play gaming, this is a great example of how MGM online and land-based casinos are leveraging technology to bring our players a better omni-channel experience.”
Borgata Online Casino is available in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while BetMGM Casino is regulated in those same two states plus Michigan and West Virginia.
