Ohio's Casinos, Racinos Boosted Revenue On Monthly Basis
Ohio’s casinos and racinos saw a healthy boost in gaming revenue in July from the month before while experiencing a modest drop from their earnings a year ago.
The Buckeye State does not have online casinos, but its four brick-and-mortar venues and seven racetracks with VGTs combined for $203.5 million in July revenue, a 5.1% increase over June but 1.6% decline from July 2022.
Casino revenue from combined slots and table games added up to $86 million, a 3.8% monthly increase but 3.1% annual drop. At the racinos, the $117.5 million generated by nearly 10,500 machines was up 6.1% on a monthly basis, down 0.4% from the prior July.
Toledo casino saw a big jump
The monthly casino revenuereported by the Ohio Casino Control Commission Thursday credited Hollywood Casino Toledo with far and away the biggest monthly increase, up 11.2% from June to $19.7 million. That was still 3.6% less than in July 2022.
Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati showed a 4% monthly increase to $21 million in revenue, which was 5.2% less than a year earlier.
JACK Cleveland was up 1.9% over June to $22.1 million and down 3.5% from 2022.
While Hollywood Casino Columbus was the only one of the four casinos that failed to improve on a monthly basis, its $23.2 million in revenue was basically flat with both the prior month and on a year-ago basis.
All racinos did better than in June
Of the seven racinos, the Ohio Lottery Commission’s report showed three improving revenue on both a monthly and annual basis.
MGM Northfield Park, the biggest earner among the racetracks with $26.9 million in July, improved 8.8% on a monthly basis and 6.4% from the prior July.
With about half as much monthly revenue, at $13 million, Hollywood Gaming Dayton was up 8% from June and 2.1% from July 2022.
Improving to a lesser extent was JACK Thistledown, whose $16 million was a 2% monthly boost and 1.5% annual increase.
All of the racinos did earn more from VGTs in July than June, with Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs actually climbing the most, at 9.8%, to $20.2 million. That was off 5.3% from July 2022, however.
Belterra Park, with the lowest amount of revenue at $7.4 million, was up 6.9% monthly but down 10.7% annually.
Miami Valley Gaming has the most machines in the state, with 2,248, and those provided $20.2 million in revenue last month. That was 4.5% more than in June but 1.7% less than the prior July.
Lastly, Hollywood Mahoning Valley’s $13.8 million was up 1.5% monthly but down 1.6% year over year.
