Ohio Lottery experiences cybersecurity hack

OHIO, USA — The state of Ohio is investigating after the Ohio Lottery experienced a cybersecurity incident on Christmas Eve.
In a statement, state officials said the hacking impacted some of the Ohio Lottery’s internal applications.
Because of the statement, mobile cashing and prize cashing above $599 at Super Retailers are currently not available. Additionally, winning numbers for KENO, Lucky One and EZPLAY Progressive Jackpots are not available on the website or mobile app.
Prize claims can still be mailed to the Ohio Lottery Central Office for the time being.
“The integrity of our games is the top priority of the Lottery, and we assure the public the gaming system is fully operational,” the Ohio Lottery said in its statement.
Details on what may have been compromised during the cybersecurity hack were not provided.
The news comes as several Ohioans have earned big winnings in recent days, including two people in the Cleveland-Akron area who each snagged $100,000 in the latest Powerball drawing. In addition, Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing saw five Buckeye State residents win $1,500 and another five grab $600.
The next Powerball drawing, with an estimated Jackpot of $685 million, is scheduled for Wednesday night. The Ohio Lottery is still investigating the ongoing incident, but those with prizes of $599 or less can still claim their winnings at participating retailers.
