New Lawsuit over Cashless Gambling Could Disrupt the Gaming Industry
Sightline Payments is suing at least one of the other companies for stealing its IP. Cashless gambling is all the rage at casinos across the US and other countries.
Sightline has 35 patents for its technology and 23 applications with the US Patent & Trademark Office. Sightline claims Everi Holdings infringes on five of its patents. The inventors of the asserted patents recognized that the field could benefit from improved systems and methods for cashless wagering and redemption.
Sightline and Everi are suing each other over the cashless gaming market. The legal battle is likely more about market control than actual IP infringement. The slot machine market saw similar battles in the past. Both companies assert they are ready to defend their positions in court. Everis general counsel warned that the company is going to mount a number of claims against its rival.
