Nevada casinos reported roughly $1.16 billion in gaming win in August, marking the sixth consecutive month topping the $1 billion mark.August’s total represents a 57% increase from the same month in 2020 when win totaled $742.9 million, according to new monthly stats released Sept. 30 by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, though it was a more modest increase than the record $1.36 billion set in July 2021.The largest share of the increase was on the Las Vegas Strip, where win increased from $317.2 million to $625.7 million. A good amount of that came from a more than 100% increase in Baccarat win to $93.1 million. That total was driven by a 15.24% hold percentage compared with 8.54% a year ago.In Washoe County, total win was $90.5 million for the month, up $14.2 million or 18.7% from August 2020. Slot win totaled $77.9 million in Washoe, a 20.7% increase. Reno accounted for $65.6 million of Washoe’s total win for the month. The Carson Valley area, which includes valley portions of Douglas County as well as the capital, reported $11.6 million in August — that’s a $1.7 million, 17% increase from August 2020 and an $800,000 decrease from July 2021’s total of $12.2 million. As usual, the vast majority of Carson’s win came from slots — $11.3 million. Just $326,000 came from game and table play.South Tahoe casinos at Stateline were up only 8% over August 2020.Gaming Control Board analyst Mike Lawton said the Caldor Fire impacted Tahoe numbers significantly, considering Highway 50 from Sacramento and the Bay Area was closed for several days last month. Further, Stateline’s four major casinos were essentially shut down for several days due to evacuation orders and warnings.

As such, the biggest impact at South Shore was a 37.5% decrease in game and table win to just $4.1 million. That greatly offset the 27.5% increase in slot win, or $19.5 million.Lawton said the fire also impacted North Tahoe casinos at Crystal Bay and Incline Village. Total win there was $2.52 million, just a 9.3%, $215,000 increase from August 2020.

Churchill County reported total win of just over $2 million las month — that’s 18.46% higher than a year ago.
