MPP Urges for Delay in Ontario’s Gaming Regime
Lisa Gretzky is a member of Provincial Parliament for Windsor West. She has urged the Government of Ontario to put the launch of the new iGaming market on hold. Great Canadian Gaming Corporation published a study on the expansion. It said the introduction of a 20% tax on gross gaming revenue of 20%, which will put land-based casinos at risk, since they pay higher taxes.
Ms. Gretzky wants the launch of the iGaming market delayed until all land-based gaming amenities recall their whole staff. Unifor, the largest union in the country, is concerned that 1,000 casino workers will lose their jobs. The Great Canadian Gaming Corporation’s economic review suggests that Ontario”s government should expect CA$3 billion less in land taxes over the course of five years. Over 2,500 gaming-related jobs will be lost in Ontario in next five.
Some argue that the legalization of online casino sites will draw away players from offshore websites. Ontario continues to approve operators. Rush Street Interactive was recently awarded a license.
