Only one winning ticket was sold for the drawing Friday night for the mega-jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery game — but it wasn’t in Connecticut.
That ticket — with the winning numbers of 13 36 45 57 67 and Mega Ball 14 — was purchased in Illinois, according to megamillions.com.
The ticketholder wins the entire jackpot, which was estimated to be worth $1.28 billion — yes, that’s billion, according to megamillions.com.
Mega Millions had not sold a winning ticket since April 15 in the twice-a-week drawings. The jackpot grew in that time to over $1 billion — the second biggest Mega Millions jackpot of all time.
According to the Associated Press, Friday’s drawing was the third largest lottery prize ever. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was a $1.537 billion ticket that was sold in October 2018.
Even though there were no top prize winners in Connecticut, the state sold 158,005 tickets with a payout. One lucky player in the Nutmeg State won a prize of $10,000 by matching four numbers and the Mega Ball, according to CTLottery.org.
Across the 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Mega Millions is offered, a total of 26 players won $1 million by matching the five numbers. Those tickers were sold in California, two in Florida, two in Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, two in Minnesota, two in North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, two in Texas and Wisconsin.
The New York ticket was sold at New Way Deli & Lottery Corp. on Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx, according to ABC7.
Overall, more than 110 individuals won prizes of over $10,000 in the CT Lottery so far in July.
The largest prize of the month went to an Oakville resident, who claimed a $414,434 prize on a “Fast Play - $10 Super 7S Progressive” ticket.
Connecticut residents have a year to claim their winning ticket. The jackpot and any prize larger than $50,000 must be claimed in person at the Connecticut Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill, according to the Connecticut Lottery. If someone loses their ticket, and it was unsigned, the Connecticut Lottery states that “anyone else who has the ticket can claim the prize.” If the ticket is damaged, the ticket still must be brought to the Connecticut Lottery headquarters. However, the process can take four to six weeks in order to confirm the prize.
