MD Casinos Generate $163 Million in February Revenue

Last month, Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate nearly $163 million in gaming revenue, contributing $68.2 million to the state.
According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, February casino gaming revenues were up nearly $37 million (29.1 percent) compared to February 2021, when the casinos were operating under capacity restrictions due to COVID-19.
Contributions from last month’s casino gaming revenue totaled $68.2 million, including $49.6 million for the Education Trust Fund. Casino gaming revenues also support local communities and jurisdictions in Maryland’s horse racing industry.
In 2018, Maryland voters approved an amendment to the State Constitution to safeguard State video lottery terminal revenues for education purposes.
As described in the bill and the ballot question, supplemental funding must total at least $125 million in fiscal 2020, $250 million in fiscal 2021, and $375 million in fiscal 2022. One hundred percent of the gaming revenues dedicated to public education must be supplemental funding each year thereafter.
