Mass casino gaming results cut by half in Q2, five casinos close
Results from mass casino table games have dropped by half to MOP6.5 billion (US$803.9 million) in the second quarter of this year from the previous three-month period, while VIP results – represented by VIP baccarat – dropped by 59 per cent to some MOP1.9 billion, data published by the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) showed.
Overall, casino games reported a 52 per cent quarter-to-quarter to some MOP8.4 billion, the majority represented by mass baccarat, about MOP5 billion, but still almost half of the previous quarter.
Results from gaming slot machines were also cut by 32 per cent, amounting to MOP745 million between April and June.
Results from horse races managed by the Macau Jockey Club saw a 20 per cent quarter-to-quarter hike to MOP12 million, while football and basketball bets managed by Macau Slot dropped by 6.8 per cent to MOP137 million.
More than 1,700 confirmed Covid cases have been uncovered in Macau since June 18, with all non-essential business operations, including casinos, ordered to close since July 11.
The DICJ data also showed the closing of five casinos in the second quarter, bringing the total of casinos operating in the city to 37.
The casino closure mainly involved third-party-run casinos shuttered due to changes enforced in a newly approved gaming law amendment.
