London teen charged in online gambling fraud: OPP
A London teen faces more than a dozen fraud- and forgery-related charges after fake player accounts were detected on online gambling sites.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. contacted the OPP in May 2021 to report suspected illegal activity on its gaming sites, the OPP said Thursday.
Investigators determined that fraudulent player accounts had been created using forged or altered documents with stolen of fake credit cards between March and December 2021, the OPP said.
Cellphone accounts had also been hacked to acquire new phones, police added.
Investigators searched a London home in February, seizing electronic devices that were examined to collect evidence, the OPP said.
A 17-year-old London male, whose name cannot be made public under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with 16 criminal offences including fraud over $5,000, three counts of fraud under $5,000, five counts of impersonation with intent and seven counts of using forged documents.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a Toronto youth court on Aug. 16.
