Las Vegas Close to Introducing Its First Tribal-Owned Casino in History
The Nevada Gaming Control Board recommended a tribe from California to be the first one to have a casino when it purchases the Palms. The final approval will be in the hands of the Nevada gaming commission on December 16.
The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is going to buy Palms and Palm Place condominiums adjacent to Red Rock Resorts for $650 million. The tribe is one of the first to propose the launch of sports betting in California. Latisha Casas, the San. Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority chairwoman, called the achievement humbling, monumental, and historic. Laurens Vosloo, CEO of The San Francisco Band, said the property is being purchased for great price considering Red Rocks spent $690 million renovating it in 2019.
The Palms is being renovated and will be the first tribal-owned casino in Las Vegas history. The tribe plans to open the casino around the pool season. There will also be a sportsbook and a meeting and convention space. The number of employees will rise to 1,200. They will reach out to former employees and let them come back to work. After the license is obtained, the Palm will operate on upwards of 30,000 square feet of meeting space and it is expected to be open around pool time.
