Lapeer County woman can't believe she won $300,000 lottery prize
LAPEER, Mich. (WJRT) - A Lapeer woman couldn't believe the Michigan Lottery machine was telling her to file a claim for her Fire & Ice Cashword scratch-off ticket.
The 54-year-old handed her ticket to the clerk at the Murphy USA gas station at 579 E. Genesee St. in Lapeer, who scanned the ticket and got the same message.
It was no mistake. The lucky winner claimed a $300,000 jackpot from the Fire & Ice Cashword game.
"I just kept thinking: 'This can't be real.' I showed my mom, and she couldn't believe it either," she said.
The lucky winner plans to pay off her home and pay bills with her prize.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around winning $300,000. It feels so surreal," she said.
Michigan Lottery players already have won $20 million worth of prizes from the Fire & Ice Cashword instant game since August 2023. More than $13 million worth of prizes remain, including one more $300,000 jackpot.
