A MYSTERY Scots lotto winner from Lanarkshire has scooped the top prize £1 million in The National Lottery.

The winner, known only as Mr. I, won the top prize on the £1 million Jackpot Green Instant Win Game.

The man, from Lanarkshire, bought a new car as his first purchase with his winnings after he became a millionaire overnight.

He is one of eight million players that win each week on The National Lottery's range of games.

Interactive winners have the opportunity to release their name, remain anonymous or like this winner, release some details through partial publicity.

Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, congratulated the man and wished him well with his winnings.

He said: “Huge congratulations to Mr. I who has become a millionaire overnight in just a few clicks.

"He can look forward to life as a newly-made millionaire, starting off with enjoying his new car.”

Players can buy tickets in shops or they can play online or by downloading the National Lottery app.

Those who play online or via the app automatically have their tickets checked and receive an email if a prize has been won.

By playing any National Lottery game, players generate more than £30M each week for National Lottery-funded projects.

This money helps support everything from the local charity making a difference where you live through to helping our nation’s athletes win Olympic and Paralympic gold medals.

To date, over £45BN has been raised and distributed to National Lottery Good Causes through more than 660,000 individual grants.

Thanks to National Lottery players, over £1.2billion is being used by charities and organisations affected by the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

This includes over £600million in funding support from the National Lottery Community Fund which is being used to help groups best placed to support people and communities through the crisis.
