Jo Abergel on the Ethical Responsibilities of the Gambling Industry
Jo Abergel is co-founder of the Ethical Gambling Forum in 2022. Jo is also a judge at the Casino Guru Awards. She talks about the ethics of gambling industry and what needs to be done without hesitance and delay.
Jo answers the question about the ethics of the gambling industry. Jo believes that the industry is already starting from a detrimental position. There are steps operators can take to conduct their business in a more ethical manner.
The Ethical Gambling Forum promotes best practice and promotes closer relationships between operators, regulators, researchers and suppliers. It provides the framework and facilitated networking opportunities for this to happen.
There is still a widespread disconnect between the leadership in gambling and the responsibility it has towards its customers. Last year, EGF hosted a panel on Profit vs. Player Protection. Recently, the Player protection zone was in the furthest corner away from the main stage. The main stages talks and keynotes didn't mention any of the ethical issues faced by the sector.
As part of the Casino Guru Awards team of judges, Jo Abergel would like to know about the impact their projects are having, how they are measuring success, future strategy and what type of buy-in they have from their C-Suite/Board.
Next year's EGF is scheduled for 26/27 April in Gibraltar. The theme will be "ESG: What could possibly go wrong?" and the theme of the event will again be highlighting the business case for greater innovation and responsibility in this area. Other projects include regular meetups on the various strands of ESG, a Diversity & Inclusion Conference in June 2023 and ongoing work with leadership development programs for the gambling industry and other sectors.
