Henrico woman wins $158k in Virginia Lottery
Henrico resident Susan Disse often plays Virginia Lottery online games in the demo mode, meaning not for money. But she was having so much luck playing Monopoly Progressive Jackpots in demo mode that she decided to play for real.
“I’m going to put some money on this!” she said.
That turned out to be a winning strategy when she won a $158,570 jackpot.
She told Lottery officials that she yelled to her husband, but he thought she was still playing in demo mode and told her she hadn’t actually won.
She told him to take the laptop from her.
“I was afraid I would hit something and make it go away!” she said.
Monopoly Progressive Jackpots is one of dozens of online instant games available at the Virginia Lottery’s website. Its jackpot grows as more people play. The odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 4.68.
“It feels unbelievable!” Ms. Disse told Lottery officials. “Overwhelming!”
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Last fiscal year, Henrico received more than $33.6 million in lottery funds for K-12 education.
