Harrington Casino reopening June 1st with limited capacity

HARRINGTON, Del. – Harrington Raceway and Casino will open back up to the public on Monday, June 1st, but as expected guests will see a lot of changes at the facility.
“When we open at 10 AM on Monday morning that there will probably be individuals already waiting in line to come in,” says Scott Saxon, the executive director of human resources at Harrington Raceway and Casino.
In accordance with Delaware’s phased reopening, Harrington Raceway and Casino will reopen on June 1st with a limited capacity. “That number could exceed 2000 people but with only approximately 500 machines being operational we are going to limit it and that way we can control social distancing,” says Saxon.
Everyone entering the building including employees will have to wear a mask, answer a short questionnaire and get their temperature checked. “When people come in it’s going to be virtually like entering an airport. We’re going to have scanners for fever detection,” says Saxon.
Due to state requirements there will be at least eight feet between available slot machines but tables games, poker, simulcast and sports betting will be closed. Extra staff will also be around to help clean as well as remind people of guidelines.”Well have additional staff on the floor that will in the most respectful way assure that people aren’t congregating and that we can maintain that social distancing on the floor at all times,” says Saxon.
Casino officials say they employ as many as 750 people so this reopening may help stimulate the economy while also generating much needed tax revenue. “It represents between the 3rd or 4th greatest source of income to the state of Delaware,” says Saxon.
Saxon adds that this is a new situation for everyone involved and they’re asking people to be patient with these changes.
The Harrington Raceway and Casino will be open Monday from 10 AM to 2 AM with hours in between to allow deep cleaning. Horse racing will resume there on June 15th. As for Dover Downs, they also plan to reopen on June 1st.
