Hard Rock International broke ground on its Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Bristol, Virginia, on Wednesday afternoon. The permanent casino location will be 300,000 square feet with 1,300 slots, 50 table games, a sportsbook, and a HardRock Cafe. It is expected to open in the spring of 2024.

Richmond residents voted down a referendum in 2021 and blocked the same referendum for 2022. Petersburg officials want a new casino to be built in Petersburg, while Richmond stakeholders want it only in Richmond.
Rivers Casino in Portsmouth expects to open on January 15, 2023. HeadWaters Casino, Norfolk hopes to be open in March, with a permanent location coming in 2024. Caesars Virginia, Danville has similar plans, expecting a temporary location to opened in 20 23 and a permanently opened one toward the end of 2024, so by the year 2024 there could be four casinos in Virginia.
