Danut and his wife Elina celebrate their big win

A bingo fan discovered he had won a small fortune after spending a penny in the loo.

Danut Sulca, 49, spent £1 on Bonus King Bingo at Betfred in Northampton before answering a call of nature.

When he returned he discovered his numbers - 8, 19, 23, 37, 45 and 49, had won him £100,000, Northampton Chronicle & Echo reported.

Warehouse manager Danut said: “I just can’t believe it. I rang my wife Elina and she was crying because like me she is so happy.

“We had some extra drinks to celebrate a win that has changed our lives forever.

“We both work shifts on minimum wage so you can imagine how much £100,000 means to us.”

Shop manager Jason Kelly celebrated the success of his friend, saying Danut was a “nice bloke who deserves his win”.

Earlier today it was reported a retired teacher who scooped £3.5million in the EuroMillions draw celebrated with a glass of water and a sit down.

Celeste Cole, 69, bought her ticket for the July 12 draw moments before sales ended after being enticed by the large jackpot on offer.

Later the same night she checked her numbers and, seeing she had matched five and a lucky star, realised she was in for “something big”.

She said: “One by one I ticked off the numbers, by the fifth main number I knew I’d won something big-ish, but then when I spotted I had also matched one of the Lucky Stars I knew I’d won something even bigger.”

Over the weekend the UK’s third ever biggest National Lottery winner came forward to claim a £171million EuroMillions jackpot.

National Lottery operator Camelot confirmed it received a claim for the £171,815,297.80 prize won by a single UK ticket-holder in the draw on Friday, September 23.

Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, said it has been an "amazing" year for UK EuroMillions players.

We are delighted to have received a claim for the third biggest ever win and look forward to supporting the ticket-holder and helping them to start to enjoy their truly life-changing win," he said.

The win marked the sixth EuroMillions jackpot won in the UK this year.

Five of these have been £100million-plus and they include the three biggest-ever National Lottery wins.

The new top three wins are an anonymous ticket-holder who banked £195M in the draw on July 19, Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucestershire who celebrated a massive £184M win in the draw on May 10 and the £171M winning ticket-holder from the draw last Friday.
