Chicago’s 3 Proposed Casino Sites Continue to Draw Opposition From Some Residents, Special Meeting Planned
The city of Chicago is holding a special meeting Monday to discuss the location of the city's first casino. The three locations are Bally’s Corporation, Hard Rock and Rivers 78. Some residents are against the proposed Rivers78 casino in the South Loop. Mayor Lori Lightfoot says the projected tax revenue is between $175-195 million depending on the site.
Mayor Lightfoot is pushing for a final decision in May or June.
Rivers 78 Casino is proposed for South Loop and Chinatown along the Chicago River. Bally's Corporation is proposing the site of the current Chicago Tribune building near the river. Hard Rock is planning to build a casino just west of Soldier Field.
Rivers 78 Casino and Bally's Corporation are expected to generate $175 million in tax revenue each. Hard Rock has a projected $195 million revenue.
The virtual meeting will take place at 1 p.m. on the Chicago City Clerk's website. Written public comment can be emailed to Nicole.Wellhausen@CityofChicago.org and Raymond.Valadez@cityofchicago.
