Chennai: Man running online gambling racket arrested; cash worth Rs 24 lakh, 193 gram gold seized

Chennai: In a great win for the cybercrime wing of the central crime branch (CCB), a man was held from a hotel near Mahabalipuram on charges of running an app-based online gambling racket. As per the report, the accused had cheated at least 30 people. The accused has been identified as Hari Krishnan who is a resident of Kilpauk. 

As a result of the bust, the cops' team recovered a car and cash worth Rs 24.68 lakh. In addition to this, the cops' team also seized 193-gram gold, 6 kg silver, 10 cell phones, a laptop, and an iPad from the suspect's possession. 

Talking about his modus operandi, investigating team added that the accused had converted a gaming website into a gambling website. 

As per the complaint filed by the victim (Vignesh) had been duped of Rs 87 lakh in online betting.

According to the Indian Express report, Chennai police commissioner, Shankar Jiwal formed a special team to investigate the case. After which, the cybercrime wing of the central crime branch formed a team under Raghavendra K Ravi, assistant commissioner.      

The team investigating the case found out he changed his online portal (gaming to betting website) by getting people addicted to it. 

During the investigations, the cops found out that the accused had converted a gaming website into a gambling website.    

The report further suggests that the suspect has been remanded to judicial custody. The cops' team further probing the betting racket to find out if more people were involved in this betting network.
