New Delhi: In a great win for the Delhi Police, a 45-year-old man was held from East Delhi on charges of running an app-based online gambling racket. The cops also recovered cash worth Rs 3.5 crore from his possession.

According to DCP (East) Priyanka Kashyap, “The accused, Sanjeev Rathore, a resident of Ganesh Apartment at IP Extension was running an app-based online gambling racket. He is a mechanical engineer by training and well-versed with the nuances of modern day technology. He was operating through multiple apps based on Android and IOS and also through various online games web portals,” as quoted by the Indian Express.

The DCP, further talking about his modus operandi added that the accused not only kept pace with the changing technology but also offered a wide variety of choices to the bettors.

Further commenting on the incident, she said that he would provide a gambling window to anyone around the world and helped them place bets on any ongoing game.

Right from the comfort of their home, the bettors could place bets on any game around the world right from football, tennis, rugby, among others, by taking his services. To target users, he was active on various online apps especially betting apps.

The bettors could easily download the apps on their phones and the accused provided user IDs and passwords in a bid to get payment and commission.

A thorough investigation into the matter is on and Income Tax Department has also been informed about the same. The cops are also probing other angles and investigating whether the accused has links with other operators abroad in places like Dubai.
