AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The Spokane Tribe Casino has some major projects underway, including a new section for games and slot machines set to open later this month.

According to General Manager, Javier De La Rosa, the casino has invested over $100 million into the current workings. After the gaming section opens, the next phase will be a large multi-purpose room that will be used for concerts, conventions, community events and that will eventually expand as well.

"We will have the room here for indoor shows and events," De La Rosa said. "By next Summer our goal is to add some more space outside so we can add more parking and second stage so we can have a more festival based atmosphere."

The casino is looking to start providing more events for the community to attend according to the entertainment director, Gary Thayer.

"We want people to come out and see what we are bringing to community in terms of live entertainment," said Thayer. "We are actually in talks with some pretty big names, but no committed acts yet so we can't really say who will play here for sure."

De La Rosa also elaborated further on the venue space design, saying the multi-purpose room will have a capacity of 2500 but when they expand the space to the outdoor area, they will be able to host 9000 patrons for concerts and events.

According to the general manager the goal for the casino is to incorporate more event style activities that allow the community to really come to an interactive show, and that is why casino leaders are highlighting this expansion.

"Of course, we are always expanding our gaming facilities because that's what casino's do," De La Rosa said. "However we really want to break out and expand our services. If we can offer more events like concerts, conventions, art markets, and more then we can get the people out here simply enjoying the moment."

"Whatever we are doing, we just want our patrons to enjoy their experiences here," he added.
